The glass bottom boat has been serving Redondo Beach for over 20 years, utilizing an experienced crew with local knowledge of the harbor and wildlife. The glass bottom boat was built in 1995 and is a U.S. Coast Guard Inspected Vessel with annual inspections. There are many different types of glass bottom boats but any boat that has glass for viewing underwater is considered to be a glass bottom boat. Some boats have glass floors you can stand on, many have a glass bottom that you look down at from the top deck, and some have small glass portholes to look out from. Our boat has an underwater viewing chamber which allows you to go downstairs and sit on our benches as you look out the large windows on either side of the bottom of the boat. These windows are approximately 7 feet long by 2 feet high and offer a very large, wide uninterrupted view of the fish. While we ask that you do not touch the windows, you do have the ability to get within inches of the glass to enjoy the views. The journey will be a two part trip in that some time is spent below water and the rest is spent above as we also venture to see the California Sea Lions while on the top deck of the boat!
The glass bottom boat is always captained by one of our U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Captains. Our three captains have a combined 50+ years of experience on the water!
While we can't guarantee you will see sharks or a mermaid, we can guarantee that you will see at least one of the following: California Sea Lions, Garibaldi (CA State Saltwater Fish), Calico Bass, Sand Bass, Opaleye, smelt, perch, and/or pelicans. On the very rare occasion we do not see any wildlife during your trip, we can give you a full refund.
